Rambling Review Writing

Top 5 Books of 2014

This time of year it seems like everybody is making their lists of top (insert number) books read, movies watched, etc. last year. I don’t always get in on trends like that, but this year, I decided to because I had the opportunity to read at least five excellent book. And yes, 4 out of the 5 are Indie authors. Honestly, most of the good books I’ve read lately aren’t published by publishers which could very well become a blog post in the future.

Resistance by Jaye L. Knight–As I said in my review of this book, Jaye is my favorite fantasy author. I can read her books with no convictions about there being magic in the books because I know she won’t put that in them. Her writing is excellent and I can’t wait to read the other books in the series!

In His ImageIn His Image by J. Grace Pennington–This book tackles the issue of aliens in space and does it with care, thoughtfulness, and in such a creative way that I had a hard time putting the book down.

Pageflex Persona [document: PRS0000040_00026]The King’s Scrolls by Jaye L. Knight (no, it isn’t published yet, but I was privileged to beta-read it. It’s also now available for pre-order. 😀 )–TKS follows in Resistance‘s footsteps in creating the continuing story of my favorite fictional characters.

Calming the Storm

Calming the Storm by Melanie Snitker (her newest book, Finding Peace is even better, but since I started and finished it in 2015, I couldn’t put it on this list)–Melanie is a wonderful budding author. Her stories are delightful, thought-provoking, and best of all, clean.

A Cowboy UnmatchedA Cowboy Unmatched by Karen Witemeyer–Though not quite as good as the other books about the Archer brothers (Short Straw Bride and Stealing the Preacher), I loved the plotline Karen gave to Neil. It fit him perfectly and was a great ending to the Archer brothers’ story.

And there you have it, my version of the top five books. What were some of your favorite books last year? Have you tried any Independently published authors? If not, why not make it a goal for this year?

Faith Blum

I am Faith Blum, author of over 25 books. Most of them are Christian Historical Fiction. I am a small-town Wisconsin girl. I have lived in, or outside of, small towns my whole life. The thought of living in a city with more than 60,000 people in it scares me, especially after some interesting adventures driving through big cities like Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minnesota.

I currently reside in the middle of the state of Wisconsin with my husband and our cat, Smokey. I am blessed to be able to have writing as my full-time career with household work and cooking to do on the side. I am also teaching Writing Lessons, doing writing consulting, and am slowly building a Young Living Essential Oils business.
