Sale and Excerpt

Last week I ran a sale on two of my books. It was awesome! Checking the sales dashboard was a little bit addicting. Anyway, I thought I would share a few stats and other numbers before I take Ashlee Willis up on her 777 challenge and share an excerpt from Lily of the Valley.

Be Thou My Vision was free from March 16-20. During that time, I paid for four promBTMV March Madness Promoos and definitely saw results from each of them. Total, I gave away 7,460 copies during the 5 day promotion and was #1 & 2 in the Christian Westerns category for at least four of those days. And I already have five new reviews!! I also had 20 borrows and 4 Kindle books sold after the free promo was over.

AMF March Madness PromoA Mighty Fortress was on sale for $0.99 from March 16-22. I paid for two promos for that book, but I’m not really sure how well either of those promos worked. I think most people bought book one because they downloaded book two rather than because they saw it on the promo. I sold 401 copies of A Mighty Fortress and 16 people borrowed it through Kindle Unlimited of the Kindle Lending Library. This book was also in the top twenty in Christian Westerns, Westerns, and Christian Historical almost all week!

Amazing Grace. I think this was the one that surprised meAG March Madness Promo the most. I did not have it on sale, but kept it at regular price ($3.99). I got 30 new preorders during the sale periods and have received 7 more since then!

Even now, three days since the end of the sale, I am seeing at least 3 borrows and 3 sales every day. God is gracious and works in ways beyond our wildest imaginings.

 777 Challenge

The 777 challenge requires you go to Page 7 of your work-in-progress, scroll down to Line 7 and share the next 7 lines in a blog post. Once you have done this, you can tag 7 other bloggers to do the same with their work-in-progress.

I personally don’t like tagging people, so I’m not going to do that. If you would like to do this, feel free to do so and comment with the link to it so I can check out what you posted. 🙂

The following lines are from Lily of the Valley and are very subject to change due to this being just the rewrite of a rough draft.

She juggled her books while she put the key in the lock and jumped when a foot hit the bottom step behind her. Her books crashed to the porch and she spun around to face the person.

“I’m sorry. Did I startle you?” Micah asked.

Ruth put a hand to her heart as if making sure it hadn’t left her chest. “Yes, you did.” She laughed nervously. “You need to stop practicing your Indian walking.”

Micah grinned sheepishly. “Sorry about that. I thought you saw me. You must’ve been lost in thought.” He bent down and helped Ruth pick up her books and papers. “How’d the first day of school go?”

Not very long, but actually longer than 7 lines. And you get a little introduction to two of the characters. Thanks for stopping by and reading my blog post!

  1. Wow! Sounds like you had great success with those sales! My strong point does not lay in marketing, but I’m trying to brush up my knowledge in that area so its good to here what does/doesn’t work 🙂

    1. Thanks, Lauren! My strong point isn’t in marketing either, but I’m learning. I’m also hoping to do a series of articles on self-publishing that will include at least one post about marketing successes and failures. Hopefully with a guest poster or two.

Faith you said you ran multiple promotions was it with a wide variety of marketing groups. Could you let us know which ones they were.
