Five Fall Favorites: Historical/Bible Times

Good morning! This week I have a special series for you. Rebekah Morris put together a fun event called Five Fall Favorites. Each day, me and the other authors will share five favorite books in various genres. To find the other blogs, check out Rebekah’s blog either here or in the above picture.

Today’s genre is Biblical Fiction. We had the option of doing a genre other than the one assigned and I chose to do Historical as well as Biblical. I am going to try to put them in order in history rather than preference because it’s easier.

Ruth by Lois Henderson

Lois has some really great books about women of the Bible. I love how she takes the story from the Bible, adds to it to bring more details into the life of the woman, but doesn’t change the substance of the story.

Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen

This is a classic and my favorite Jane Austen story. If you don’t know the story, you should at least try to read it. I know Jane Austen isn’t for everyone and can understand that. There are some attitudes and actions that you will not want to emulate.

Little Women by Louisa May Alcott

This is another classic and one that has great morals. I love the stories and how I can relate to each of the March girls except Amy. My favorite character in the book is Beth. Of course, Laurie is always fun to read about. I think I need to read this book again; it’s been too long.

Ride the River by Louis L’Amour

I like a lot of Louis L’Amour books, but I think this is my favorite. As with all of his books, use caution if you don’t like any swearing. There isn’t much, but there are a few minor words the characters use. Echo has a different name, a big attitude, and lots of survival know-how, even though she’s never been to a large town. Oh, and she just inherited a sum of money and an unknown treasure that has people going after her.

Short Straw Bride by Karen Witemeyer

For unpredictability, romance, and a good bit of adventure, this is the book for you. It is a Christian book, but I will warn you that the romance does get a little more than some people will care for. Meredith and Travis are great as are all the supporting characters. I especially love Myra. This is one of my favorite Western Romances.

  1. Great list. I LOVE Pride and Prejudice and Little Women. I really like the sound of Lois Henderson’s books, too. I’ll have to check them out!
