Title: Saving Faith
Written By: Valerie Howard
Genre: Contemporary Christian Romance
Recommended Ages: 15 & up (due to mentions of sexual content, but no descriptions)
Introduction:
I wasn’t sure what I was expecting when I picked this book to read. The description didn’t tell me a ton about it and the cover said even less. Although, after having read the book now, the cover tells more than you’d expect. This isn’t your normal romance and isn’t super ushy-gushy. It’s about multiple broken people who have a lot of things to work through and Valerie does a good job portraying that.
Characters: 1/1
I loved the depth of Jessica and Axel. They each had good and bad qualities and lots of thigns to work out for themselves. Jessica’s difficulties with her conscience were well done and effective.
Dialogue: 1/1
The dialogue was witty, harsh, calm, angry, and hilarious all when it was supposed to be. I never thought it was out of place.
Plot/Storyline: 1/1
This was a different kind of romance than I am used to, but that is a good thing. I enjoyed reading this nitty-gritty, but quite clean romance. I thought the plot was well thought out worked well for the characters.
Overall Writing Quality: .75/1
I read an Advanced Reader Copy, so there were a few typos and some sentences that could have used some work, but I am writing this review under the assumption that those things all got fixed. Overall, the writing quality was very good. Only a couple of times did it lag and pull me out of the book, but as I said, hopefully that has been fixed in the published version.
Un-put-down-ability: .75/1
There were a few times I put the book down because I had to to get sleep or some other menial task. But there were also a few times I put it down because it covers some deep topics and I needed a mental break. Overall, though, it was hard to put down.
Conclusion: 4.5/5
If you like nitty-gritty romance that is clean, this is definitely the book for you. Especially if you also like surprise endings!
Note: I received a free copy of this book from the author with no compulsion to write a positive review about it. All thoughts are my own.
